Homemade Fried Shrimp Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooking oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)
  • Cocktail sauce or tartar sauce (for dipping, optional)

Instructions:

Preparing the Shrimp:

  1. Pat dry the peeled and deveined shrimp using paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  2. In three separate bowls, set up a breading station:

  3. Place the flour in the first bowl.
  4. Beat the eggs in the second bowl.
  5. Combine the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in the third bowl.

Coating and Frying the Shrimp:

  • Take each shrimp and dredge it first in the flour, shaking off any excess.
  • Dip the flour-coated shrimp into the beaten eggs, ensuring it's fully coated.
  • Finally, coat the shrimp with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere the breadcrumbs to the shrimp. Ensure an even coating.
  • Heat cooking oil in a deep skillet or frying pan to around 350°F (175°C) for frying.
  • Carefully place the breaded shrimp into the hot oil, cooking in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.
  • Fry the shrimp for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried shrimp and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Serve the crispy fried shrimp hot, garnished with lemon wedges for a zesty touch. Pair with cocktail sauce or tartar sauce for dipping, if desired.

  • Enjoy these homemade crispy fried shrimp, boasting a golden-brown crust and tender, flavorful shrimp within - a delectable appetizer or main dish for any seafood lover! Adjust seasoning or add spices for a personalized flavor.
