Homemade Fried Chicken Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 8 pieces of chicken (thighs, drumsticks, breasts, or wings)
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust for spice preference)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

Preparation:

  • In a large bowl, pour the buttermilk over the chicken pieces, ensuring they're fully submerged. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight to marinate.

Coating the Chicken:

  • In a shallow dish or tray, combine the all-purpose flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  • Remove each piece of chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess liquid to drip off.
  • Coat the chicken pieces thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture, pressing gently to adhere. Shake off any excess flour.

Frying the Chicken:

  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep pot to 350°F (175°C) for frying.
  • Carefully place a few chicken pieces into the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
  • Fry the chicken for about 10-12 minutes per side, depending on the size of the pieces, until they're golden brown and cooked through.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C).
  • Once cooked, transfer the fried chicken to a wire rack or a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
